Refers to the collaborative effort to build economies based on local, regional or county products. Specifically in the area of food, it refers to integrated production, processing, distribution and consumption to improve the economy, environment, health and social relations of a particular place and is considered part of a broader movement, such as the sustainable movement. The term is part of the buy local and community-based economy, i.e., a preference for buying locally produced goods and services.
