Project Description

An ideal trip

My vision of the management of public transport during the pandemic is quite negative.

In all places, whether they are shops, gyms, restaurants … there is a capacity limitation; On the other hand, in public transport, which is a necessity and, therefore, there are more people who need access to it, the most important thing hasn’t been taken into account: social distance.

Taking public transport has become a risky sport: you don’t know how busy it will be, if you will have someone next to you who is contagious but does not respect their quarantine, if you will have someone in front of you who attended a party with 50 people last night … ironic as you cannot meet some friends, but you can share a closed space with other people that you totally don’t know.

Personally, I have lived these situations with a lot of anxiety, fear and stress. As there are perimeter restrictions in the Valencian Community and I am from Catalonia, my family could not come to look for me by car. The only solution was to take the train. It seemed very unfair that my family, the nucleus of coexistence, could not go after me, but that I had to take the same vehicle with hundreds of other people. Finding the train, the subway, the tram or the bus little traveled becomes synonymous with an alignment of the planets.

For this reason, my proposal consists of two photographs of the totally empty subway, I being the only traveler; calming that social anxiety fueled by the pandemic.
